Raymond J. Borens - February 15, 2004

Raymond J. Borens, 95, of 132 Short St., Minonk, died at 1:40 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 15, 2004) at OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Craig Swenson officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Pekin. Visitation will be for one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mr. Borens was born June 23, 1908, in Drummond, Wis., the son of Michael and Nina Kruger Borens.

He moved to Morris at 17 years of age and soon entered into the automobile business. At the age of 36 he was called to military service and served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. After his military service, he relocated with Studebaker Automobiles to Minonk. He later moved the Studebaker business to Chillicothe in 1958, where he stayed until 1962. He retired from the automobile business in 1975.

He married Doris P. Marshall in December of 1949. She died March 13, 2001.

Surviving is one stepdaughter, Connie (Don) Gill, Edwardsville; three stepgrandchildren, Greg Gill, Providence, R.I.; Gwen Young, Denver; and Jarrod Gill, Telluride, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Jarilyn Marshall; four brothers; and three sisters.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk, and the Minonk American Legion Post 142.
